    Building a 120mm rotary table

Congratulations Arnold. Thanks for the great thread. I inspired me to get going on mine. Don't take this the wrong way it also discouraged a little due to your patients on getting a super fit and finish, something I need to work on.

    E-Z Engine (Jingle bell engine)

You did a good job. Video is good enough to see it run and hear why it is called "jingle bell"

    8" Rotary Table

Thanks for the generous offer Dean, I will keep it in mind if I can't come up with something around here. Rich I will have a look at the programs and see if I can make use of them in one way or another. I have not had time to do any work on it, it is low on the priority list right now. I did...

    8" Rotary Table

I don't have any change gears but I do have a big idler that connects the spindle to the feed gear box. I have thought about using it in some way to index but have not taken the time yet to see what it would take. I saw a setup where someone posted some pics of them doing it that way. If I can...

    8" Rotary Table

I hear you Dean. I looked up some gears and figured for the cost I might as well just by a commercial RT. I would really like to do is learn and cut my own gear but I have no way to index them. If I placed my cards right I may be able to use the RT to make one once it is done and then replace...

    8" Rotary Table

I was able to get a bit done today but mostly it was thinking and searching the junk box to continue the project. Earlier you saw the booboo I made in the center of the table. Well here is the fix. I bored out the mistake and made the spindle to fit the bored hole then faced it off. Next I...

    8" Rotary Table

Dean yes there appears to be enough room in each corner of the base for a lock. The base is 8x8 but the table is 9" . I am thinking later I may run into a problem with the crank handle more then anything, but it can be turned down easy enough. New guy the lathe is a Cincinnati. The chuck well...

    8" Rotary Table

I made some more progress today but I did not get any pictures and I am having trouble uploading to my host. The rest of the week will be very very busy so I doubt I will get more done unless it rains. Posted below is the hub mounted into the table and a poor picture of my lathe. I am sure...

    8" Rotary Table

When I said I was using parts I had on hand when I was at the scrap dealer I saw some weights and bought a few. Here is one that i will be using for the table. Getting the outer skin off was a pita. It would eat a HHS tool up in no time.So I picked up a C2 carbide tipped tool to finish the job...

    8" Rotary Table

Don't know if I need one but I came across the plans for a rotary table here and in following Arnond"s build I decided to start one of my own. I am a real newby when it comes to machining as I have only had my mill and lathe for a few months. I decided to build the table mainly to gain...

    Building a 120mm rotary table

hi Arnold, great job so far. I finally got some pictures and time to start my project and will start a thread soon. I am at the point to add the worm screw also and I have been thinking on the idea you had to make it adjustable. I was waiting to see what you came up with first but the idea I...

    Will winter never end?

Guess I live on the wrong side of Idaho ;D The way it's going here crops going to be over a month behind but it's always worse elsewhere. Glad we don't have tornadoes.

    Shop gleanings

Thanks Marv. It's the post like this that make this site top notch. Could you show a close up of the undercut as you put it. I assume the corner or edge where it meets the the table has a bevel?

    Building a 120mm rotary table

Pre heating would help. Without looking I don't know what 2.5 converts to but running smaller rod on thick piece like that should still weld just fine and even a bit smoother then shown. In this case the best way to approach it would have been to do a triple pass. One right in the corner then...

    Powdered Graphite?

I have seen it in auto parts stores. Also for larger quantities you may find it at a tractor dealer/supply. We use it to mix with seed to lubricate the planter.

    Building a 120mm rotary table

I to have read and downloaded the drawing in the link. I have started to gather the parts and actually started the the table with a 25lb cast iron weight. Mine will be 9". So with that i will be following with great interest.

    Grinding Boring Bar Tools

I found the thread on grinding tool bits for a fly cutter and must admit that after I finally got them sharp with a hone they work great and leave a fine finish. I need to grind up some bits for some boring bars. They have a slot one one end at a 90* and on the other looks like a 45*. Anyone...

    Milling tools for 60* chamfer

Thanks for the great ideas. Have to keep the slot in a round bar idea for the future and I had thought about the center drill but I was afraid I would have to cut the pilot end off to get clearance. I had to go to town today and a guy told me about a place that he has bought lathe tooling from...

    Hello all on HMEM

Thanks for the welcomes. I do not have picks of the shop, it's just built for the farm to repair/maintain machinery. As far as building the engine is short order my fit and finish is sub par with most if not all the other projects posted here. Anyway I cleaned it up and took a picture.

    Milling tools for 60* chamfer

It was getting late yesterday and I tried by mounting the gib in a small vice and then into the 6" mill vice but with the gib 12" long it was not rigid enough. It would have chattered as I cut the ends. I have yet to think up of another way to mount it at an angle.
